The Lizzie Velasquez Story

Overview —

Born with a rare syndrome that prevents her from gaining weight, Lizzie was bullied in school by her classmates for looking different and online as a teenager when she discovered a video labeling her as “The Ugliest Woman in the World.”  Lizzie’s story proves that there is life on the other side of bullying and that self-worth and compassion are essential along the way. The award-winning documentary A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story chronicles unheard stories and details of Lizzie’s physical and emotional journey up to her multi-million viewed TEDx talk, and follows her pursuit from a motivational speaker to Capitol Hill as she lobbies for the first federal anti-bullying bill.

My Involvement —

As the line producer, I oversaw the entire production of A Brave Heart from the very beginning stages of fundraising through to post. I managed the Kickstarter campaign, created all initial artwork including the title treatment, poster, shareable graphics, etc., designed and developed the initial film website, created graphics for the film, managed the film budget from pre through post, booked crew and travel, scouted locations, managed clearances for licensed footage and music, handled festival submissions, managed all deliverables for distribution...and then some.
